Is your home feeling a bit too crowded lately? Those cupboards bursting with clothes you haven’t worn in ages? The garage is filled with items you no longer need? Well, what if I told you that clearing out your space could not only give you that breath-of-fresh-air feeling but also help provide essential care to those who need it most?
The Joy of Purposeful Decluttering
Let’s be honest – most of us have way more stuff than we need. Those books we’ve already read, kitchen gadgets we barely use, and clothes that no longer fit are taking up valuable space in our homes and our minds.
When you donate these items to Greendale House Palliative & Hospice Care (formerly known as HospiceWits), you’re not just creating a more peaceful space for yourself. You’re helping fund compassionate care for patients and families during some of life’s most challenging moments. Talk about a win-win!

Bonus points if you can clean items before donating them! A quick wipe-down or wash makes items immediately saleable and saves our volunteers precious time.
Make Your Decluttering Count
Ready to transform your clutter into care? Here’s how to make the most impact:
- Start small if you’re feeling overwhelmed. Even one drawer can yield valuable donations!
- Use the one-year rule: Haven’t used it in 12 months? It’s probably safe to donate.
- Consider quality: Ask yourself, “Would I give this to a friend?” If the answer’s yes, it’s perfect for donation.
Beyond Physical Items
Your decluttering might uncover other ways to support Greendale House:
- Old mobile phones or tablets can be refurbished or recycled
- Unused gift cards with remaining balances can be donated directly
- Collections of coins gathering dust in jars add up to meaningful support
A Community of Compassion
When you donate to Greendale House, you’re joining a community of compassionate individuals who believe in the dignity of every person. Your act of clearing space at home creates space for healing and comfort where it’s needed most.
So take a deep breath, open that overstuffed cupboard, and remember – every item you donate has the potential to change someone’s final journey for the better.
